Low Tech Organization and Noncommittal Wall Decor

Every room in my house now has tiny clotheslines filled with something: Art prints, souvenirs from nature, recipes, letters from friends, to-do lists, wishlists, inspirational photos and quotes, dreams, good memories, other reminders. I find that I enjoy seeing what I’m thinking, liking, and doing all at once. Being a very visual person it’s been helping me prioritize tasks as well as become really aware of changes in my inspirational direction because it visually alters my environment as I edit what’s on the clothesline.

As an apartment renter, it means I can also decorate my walls with little disturbance (i.e. no big holes) and change my mind as many times as I want with what I hang on the wall. The paper on the clotheslines also remind me of flag banners so I always feel like I’m celebrating something. All around these clothesline put me in a good mood!

Each clothesline is made with 2 straight pins, hemp string or yarn, and tiny clothespins

I’ve been wanting fingerless gloves forever, but something in me just couldn’t go to the store and buy some random pair because I’m finding that I really like owning things that are hard to replace and handmade (i.e. things such as my surfboard shaped by the late Bill McGuire and my intricate wedding ring quilt by my Grandmother that she made specifically for me and my husband). I don’t own lots of fancy things, but the special things I do have, I treasure.

I’m adding these to that list: A gift that was hand-knit and hand-delivered from Sweden by my favorite Swedes!

Last minute my husband and I decided to bundle up and head over to The Edwardian Ball on Gallery Row last night. I loved the enthusiastic outfits, the mob of people with face paint, the art show at Tsunami by pyrographer Walker Babington, as well as his live portrait in the street, concluded with dancing to the DJ set at Tsunami. Now that’s how to do a Sunday evening in January.
